The foundation of Dr B. R. Ambedkar University (originally known as Agra University) was prepared on the 1st of July, 1927, as a result of hectic efforts of a band of passionate educationists like Rev. Canon A.W. Davis, Munshi Narain Prasad Asthana, Dr L.P. Mathur, Lala Dewan Chand, Rai Bahadur Anand Swaroop and Dr Brajendra Swaroop,. initial jurisdiction of University extended over United Provinces of Agra, Central India and Rajputana with 14 affiliated colleges and 2530 scholars of which, 1475 students belonged to joined Provinces. primarily, there were only four abilities in the University viz. creative pursuits, Sciences, Commerce and Law. abilities of Medicine (1936), Agriculture (1938), dwelling research (1980), Basic Sciences (1981), Fine creative pursuits (1982) and administration (1994) were added subsequently.
A resolute attribute in leveraging the education of an learned organisation is the pursuit of excellence and consistent adherence to high benchmark in periods of imparting information encouraging research. throughout last eighty three years the University has endeavoured to hold taking up these high concepts and has established wealthy traditions and developed esteem from the intellectual community. University has sincerely served the origin of higher learning in to the north India. The very old principle of integrating ethical and lesson standards in education has been the endeavour of the University. To inculcate these absolutely vital standards in its scholars academicians have been assiduously trying to sharpen the content and curriculum of the University.
The University was renamed as Dr. B. R. Ambedkar University in 1996. The University now caters to the informative need of the seven localities of Agra partition Agra, Aligarh, Mainpuri, Hathras, Firozabad, Etah and Mathura. Besides, the University is proud of having affiliated to it, Sarojini Naidu health College, which is one of the oldest and premier health organisation of the homeland. At present university has approx 200 affiliated schools and 15 residential organisations spread out in its four residential campus viz. Paliwal reserve, Khandari Campus, Civil Lines Campus and Chhaleshar Campus. Furthermore, this university affiliates schools of Homeopathy, expanding all over the State of U.P.
The University is gradually surging ahead as a centre for higher scientific occupational and job oriented education and innovative study. The aim of the University is to innovate in the area of learning and to become a centre of excellence both Nationally and Internationally. The University is not only confined to impart quality learning but furthermore to satisfy the flaming desire of the scholars who are exploring the creative intellect and discovering attitude of the scholars. The University is making every effort to fulfill the essence of University motto "Tamso Ma Jyotirgamay" going from darkness to lightweight.
